The award ceremony, held in the fabulous McGinnity in downtown Spokane, consisted of a collection of the best home builders in Spokane County. Many spectacular projects were showcased in the Home Renovation categories as well as New Home Construction.

Our winning landscape project started with our client’s love of the modern aesthetic. The objective was to create clean, modern, outdoor spaces with lush landscape plantings blending into the native forest; to create a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces; and use materials that would complement and enhance the residence.

A series of steps and landings bring guests from the street to the front door, where sandwashed concrete and precast pavers provide a strong, contemporary look to the entry. The front slope is retained with a system of modern concrete retaining walls with powder coated steel caps, and a tile veneer that matches the residence.

A courtyard with modern weir water feature completes the welcoming feel of the entry. Landscape lighting throughout the planting beds creates nightime drama.

The focus for the back of the residence was to minimize the landscape elements. Therefore, the natural elements of forest, mountains, and water were emphasized.

Sandwashed concrete and contemporary pavers provide ample patio space and wide walkways to access all areas of the property.

A custom built concrete firepit with gas burner, provide warmth and beauty at night. Night lighting was kept to a minimum to enhance the natural feel of the space, but added to pathways and steps for safety.

Plantings for the residence are a combination of low maintenance and deer resistant plants. The lawn areas fade into a mowable native grass, and provide a seamless transition from the manicured space to the native areas.

Thank you, Spokane Home Builders Association, for the honor!
